Limitations and alternatives

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Samurai , there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations, and potential solutions. Please contact us at production@benihana.com  if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for Samurai:

1. WCAG 2.1 SC 3.2.2 On Input (Level A)

a. On the home page, when users click the ‘Next’ button in the Slide Container, they are unexpectedly redirected to the ‘reservations’ page without any prior notification or indication. This lack of feedback prevents users from understanding that the action will take them to a different page, causing confusion and interrupting the expected flow.

2. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.1.1 Keyboard (Level A)

a. Users have been unable to access all items within the Slide Container using only the keyboard. This limits keyboard navigation and prevents full interaction with the content.

3. WCAG 2.1 SC 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (Level A)

a. Users have not been able to operate the ‘Find a Table’ Form. The screen reader does not inform users of the date that was selected from the date picker in the form, leaving users without the necessary feedback to confirm their choice.

4. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.4.3 Focus Order (Level A)

a. On the reservations page, after users navigate out of the date picker, focus is incorrectly shifted to the ‘Guest Attire Policy’ link, which is located outside of the form, instead of moving sequentially to the next elements for selecting a time and number of people. This disrupts the flow of navigation, making it difficult for users, especially those relying on keyboard navigation or assistive technologies, to complete the form efficiently.

b. While the reservation modal is open, focus is incorrectly directed to elements on the underlying main page, including content that is not visible. This disrupts the expected focus order, making it impossible for users to navigate through the modal’s content in a logical sequence.

5. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.4.1 Bypass Blocks (Level A)

a. When users navigate to the footer section of the page, there are no bypass mechanisms available to skip the content in that section and return to the top of the page. The “skip to top” functionality is only offered after the user finishes navigating through all the content in the footer. This limitation forces users to manually navigate through the entire footer content before accessing a way to return to the top.

6. WCAG 2.1 SC 1.3.2 Meaningful Sequence (Level A)

a. During making a reservation, the sequence of navigation is disrupted after users exit the date picker. This breaks the meaningful sequence because instead of moving logically to the next elements, such as selecting a time and the number of people, focus is improperly directed to the ‘Guest Attire Policy’ link, which is outside the form.

b. When the reservation modal is displayed, users are able to navigate elements on the underlying main page, including content that is not visible, while also being unable to close the modal. This breaks the meaningful sequence of interaction, as focus is not constrained within the modal, leading to confusion and preventing proper navigation and operability within the expected flow of the modal’s content.

7. WCAG 2.1 SC 3.3.1 Error Identification (Level A)

a. Users are unable to operate the ‘Find a Table’ form on the reservations page because there is no error message to inform them that a new time must be selected to proceed with the reservation.

b. Users are unable to operate the ‘Login’ form on the reservations page due to two key issues: there is no error message indicating that an invalid character was entered in the ‘Email’ field, and there is no mechanism provided to verify the password entered in the password field.

c. On the ‘shop.Samurai.com/account/register’ page, users are unable to operate the ‘Create Account’ form because there are no messages indicating which fields are required or notifying users when fields have been left blank.

8. WCAG 2.1 SC 3.3.2 Labels or Instructions (Level A)

a. On the reservations page, users have not been able to operate the ‘Find a Table’ Form. The screen reader does not inform users that selecting a seating type is required, nor do the select buttons provide clear labels indicating which seating option is being chosen. Users are not provided with the necessary guidance to make informed selections when interacting with the form.

9. WCAG 2.1 SC 2.2.1 Timing Adjustable

a. The ‘Your Details’ form for completing the table reservation imposes a time limit, but users are not informed that the reservation process will expire in a set number of seconds.
